Doddabetta Peak (2623m) stands tall in the Nilgiri chain of mountains. On a clear day you would be able to see towns like Coonoor, Wellington, Mettupalayam, and Coimbatore. Scenic views surrounding peak seem very pleasant.
The lovely garden has different types of roses, imported shrubs, rare flowering plants, Eucalyptus trees and several old trees. One of the main attractions here is the fossilised tree trunk, which is approximately 20 million years old. Summer festival is held during May every year. Major attractions of the festival are the flower shows, the cultural programs relating to classical arts, and adventure sports like trekking.
Built in 1825, the 2.5-km-long Ooty Lake worthfully demands a visit. One can go for boating and fishing in this lake. For fishing you would require prior permission. A racecourse is also located in vicinity of the lake. A mini-train takes the tourists around the lake.

Goad Trout, Carp and mixed water fishing can be done in various streams and lakes of Ooty. However you have to acquire a license which is issued by the Assistance Director of Fisheries.
Hang-gliding courses are organised during March to May every year, with the assistance of the Department of Tourism. Contact the Tourist Officer, Ooty for assistance.
Leisurely shopping can be a fun-filled activity in Ooty. Exclusive Nilgiri products including Nilgiri tea, fruits, natural oils, plant nurseries are easily available in the town. Co-operative Super Market and Municipal Market are two nice places for shopping fruits and general groceries.
Coimbatore, 89km from the town, is the nearest airport. Flights operate regularly for Bangalore (290 km from Ooty), Chennai (535 km) and Mumbai. Nearest railway station is Mettupalayam (35km) from where you can take a quaint hill train for Ooty. You can also reach the town on a private car, taxi or bus.
