Shimla-Kalka
Train
Any journey of Himachal Pradesh cannot be complete without travelling in
renowned Shimla Kalka Railwaya. Steam engines are used to pull the train.
This 100 years old train has been designated World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Guinness Book of 'Rail Facts and Feats' has termed Kalka-Shimla Railways
as 'greatest narrow gauge engineering feat in India'. The train covers 96km
stretch in 6 hours, trudging through 103 tunnels and more than 900 curves,
moving at the speed of 20 to 25km per hour. The journey commences at Kalka,
2100 Ft above sea level and ends at Shimla, 5100 Ft above sea level. Through
the journey you pass wonderful time watching the wonderful natural scenes.

Himachal Pradesh is a hub of adventure activities in India. People enjoy
activities like trekking, ice-skating, skiing, heli-skiing, river rafting,
para gliding, mountain cycling, camping and golf. Changing altitude,
appearance and formation, from a pine covered slopes to cold deserts makes
trekking very interesting in Himachal. Manali, Narkanda, Kufri and Shimla

How
to Reach
Himachal Pradesh can be accessed by air, train or road. The state has its
important airport in Kullu. As for the railway, it is difficult to lay down
railway lines in hilly terrain. Narrow gauge railway track connects to Kalka
which is connected by broad gauge to New Delhi. Few other railway routes
also run through the state. The state has good network of roads connecting
it to various destinations in India.
